Senior Buyer-Planner

JOB SUMMARY:

Performs various purchasing assignments of considerable complexity to procure equipment, services, parts and supplies necessary for the operation of the organization. Reviews proposals, negotiates prices and selects and recommends suppliers. Verifies delivery dates, approves payment and maintains necessary records. Develops solutions to difficult problems requiring analysis and action plans. Makes practical application of customary practices, procedures or techniques. Interfaces with suppliers, immediate supervisor and other personnel within the Company.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Independently analyzes demand, decides quantity to buy and negotiates purchases of inventory materials up to $40k per MRP.
  2. Places PO’s for inventory and non-inventory items and follow up as required to assure an adequate material supply.Plans, schedules, monitors and reports on activities related to the project/Program including activity definition and sequencing, resource estimating, duration estimating, schedule development, and schedule control activities.
  3. Assures an uninterrupted supply of material while maximizing inventory turns.Facilitates status review meetings among project team members and clients. Works with senior management on product development Programs proposals, bids, contracts, estimates, and schedules.
  4. Leads company-wide key supplier relationships.Maintains awareness of emerging technologies and Project/Program Management techniques.
  5. Leads company-wide commodity responsibility.
  6. Resolves quality and delivery problems.
  7. Negotiates company-wide purchase agreements.
  8. Sources new items with new and existing suppliers.
  9. Identifies potential suppliers and qualify as required.
  10. Identifies cost reduction opportunities through competitive bidding, negotiation, and design changes. Implements as feasible.
  11. Evaluates suppliers and provides feedback to improve performance especially in the areas of lead-time, on-time delivery, delivered cost, terms, and quality.
  12. Develops and maintains long term relationships with key suppliers such that we are viewed as an excellent customer worthy of preferential treatment.
  13. Develops a sense of part ownership that includes concern for inventory accuracy and inventory obsolescence and the ability to anticipate potential problems.
  14. Conducts complex analytical studies and makes recommendations from them.

 Technical Competencies: 

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Six (6) years relevant work experience using MRP applications.
  • Knowledge of production and procurement procedures.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state and local procurement laws and regulations.
  • NAPM/APICS certification preferred.
  • Word processing and spreadsheet application (Microsoft Office preferred).
  • Capable of leading the Sourcing and Procurement team on company-wide projects.

  

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Frequent sitting.
  • Lift up to 25 lbs.
