Welder II - 2nd Shift

JOB SUMMARY:

Under minimum supervision works on performing Set ups on a wider variety of products and material from Blue Prints, verbal instructions, Engineering direction, and customer specifications. Sets up and welds, brazes, jigs, and performs similar and/or related operations on jobs which require the application of individual ingenuity and problem solving method, or results required, where previous standards of operation have not been established. Performs layout, preparation, setup, measurement, assembly installation, and other duties as needed per project to meet safety, quality, and productivity expectations.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Under minimal supervision, sets up and operates different types of equipment used to weld metal cabinets and other related products.
  2. Resolves quality and mechanical problems, making minor repairs and equipment adjustments as needed.
  3. Read/Work from Blue Prints and ability to perform MIG and TIG Welding at the ASW Certification level.
  4. Engaged with continues improvement efforts in production processes in the Welding department.
  5. Inspects and maintains equipment for compliance with safety requirements. Corrects any safety issues prior to performing operations.
  6. Inspects welded parts per work in process inspection procedure and ensures they meet engineering specifications.
  7. Fabricates equipment by cutting and welding various metals. Welds sheet metal using different welding positions (flat, overhead, vertical, etc.).
  8. Cleans and prepares surfaces (including sanding) to be welded.
  9. Keeps equipment and work area clean and orderly.
  10. Upon completion of welding operations, assists other areas as needed.
  ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Continuously maintains a clean work area. Disposes of trash and production scrap. Assists in cleaning common areas.

 Technical Competencies: 

  • High school or equivalent education preferred.
  • Must have minimum of 3 years TIG welding experience in a Manufacturing/Industrial Environment.
  • Welding Certification (e.g. ASW) or equivalent education preferred.
  • Production welding with sheet metal experience preferred.
  • Proficient in TIG welding steel and aluminum alloys.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Must demonstrate the capability of welding sheet metal products by passing welding test.
  • Proficient in reading and understanding blueprints and engineering specifications. Basic reading, writing and numerical ability.
  • Proficient in using measuring devices as required for product inspection.
  • Available and willing to work extended hours and/or weekends as production demands dictates.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.

  

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be knowledgeable of safe operating rules and procedures and demonstrate competence though written and practical application.
  • Must wear all required personal protective equipment, especially eye protection due to the considerable glare emitted from work.
  • Work involves:
    • Varying degrees of precision and control where damage could be considerable.
    • Lift up to 40 lbs.
    • Occasional pushing/pulling of carts with loaded material.
    • Attention and care required to prevent injury to others when lifting, carrying, and manipulating lengthy materials (e.g. 10’).
    • Frequent stooping, bending, reaching, and working on structures of varying height and length.
    • Frequent elbow/wrist movement while grasping parts and finished assembly.
    • Constant standing and walking.
  • Work area must be carefully enclosed to prevent injury to others from sparks and flying chips.

 


 

Production Supervisor

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for meeting the Production Department goals by efficiently managing all non-exempt direct/indirect employees involved in fabrication, paint, assembly, welding, and packing operations, while fostering an environment of collaboration and respect. Working in collaboration with cross-functional department teams while effectively meeting and executing production schedules. The Production Supervisor plays a critical role of meeting performance-to-promise goals. This Production Floor leadership position oversees all shift activities, development of personnel, and holds employees accountable for safety, quality, productivity, on time delivery and adherence to company policies.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Performs adequate line balancing of manufacturing operations to optimize personnel and equipment utilization. Ensures daily and weekly production expectations are met by effectively communicating and coaching the team to achieve department safety, quality and production goals.
  2. Reviews production schedules with Plant Manager to determine if there are any equipment, material or manpower deficiencies that might hinder their completion.
  3. Analyze safety incidents, quality problems, production machinery and downtime events to determine root cause and develop corrective and preventative actions.
  4. Utilizes a variety of reports, records and production documentation to understand the daily production requirements. Reports shift performance results in accordance with prescribed standards, using assigned tools.
  5. Leads the improvement of operational methods and processes by recommending changes in materials, equipment and procedures, in order to enhance quality and attain product cost reductions. Utilizes continuous improvement methods and tools including partnering with other departments as needed in order to maintain and sustain Lean Manufacturing initiatives. Directs efforts to make adjustments to the process to ensure quality and production expectations are met while monitoring production processes.
  6. Works in conjunction with the Manufacturing Training Coordinator in the training and development of production personnel so they can perform their duties effectively.
  7. Ensures production employees are properly trained on safety procedures, machine operation, quality criteria, product specifications and any other procedures related to their job. Recognizes unsafe conditions and practices and takes action to prevent injuries and property loss.
  8. In partnership with Human Resources, responsible for employee performance evaluations and counseling.
  9. In partnership with Human Resources, responsible for hiring, terminating and promoting employees.
  10. Responsible for the scheduling of personnel, PTO approval, tracking of attendance/Absenteeism, counseling in regards to attendance issues, and general monitoring of Time Attendance of production Personnel.
  11. Ensures that established policies, rules and regulations are followed.
  12. Effectively communicates with cross-functional team members and resolves personnel problems in a timely manner. Motivate and communicate in order to maintain good morale.
  13. Openly and honestly communicates with all CPI employees to build trust and effective teamwork. Encourages employee involvement in achieving a shared objective towards CPI goals and values.
