Shipping & Receiving Supervisor

JOB SUMMARY:

Independently coordinates, develops, and implements a transportation demand plan and a transportation capacity plan. Responsible for creating network models that show the transportation mode and freight capacity requirements for all the product flow volumes and delivery requirements at an established level. Identifies the optimal carrier base and determines routing/scheduling. Uses analytical and quantitative methods to understand, predict, and enhance logistics processes. Responsible for assembling data, analyzing performance, identifying problems and developing recommendations which support the management of logistics for the CH operations.

Responsible for the flow of materials in and out of the NB operations plant as well as the functions of cycle counting including inventory accuracy. Works with U.S. contract manufacturers to optimize freight systems to be in sync with CPI. Delegates assigned tasks to immediate subordinates and coordinates assignments to maintain workflow. Directs subordinates on department needs and evaluates performance. Assures conformance against established objectives. Accountable for quality and quantity of work produced within the shipping & receiving department.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Considers all modes of transportation, defines the boundaries of each mode, and provides a clear, cost effective transportation solution for NB plant.
  2. Develops rules for routing and reviewing routings daily to drive cost improvements; working with Shipping Team members at CPI and contract manufacturer facilities.
  3. Uses the TMS optimizer, merge in transit process, and pool point distribution methodology to determine the most direct and cost effective mode of transport.
  4. Develops and reports cost saving measurements and uses metrics to drive change in routing. Extensive analytical analysis of routes will be needed to drive improved results.
  5. Leads and implements optimization process across all CPI and contract manufacturer’s facilities for the Western part of the U.S.
  6. Investigates problems, finds root causes and develops solutions.
  7. Develops performance and freight charges reports for logistics service providers.
  8. Delegates work to shipping & receiving personnel and coordinates activities on a daily basis.
  9. Obtains quotes for transportation of product.
  10. Oversees the preparation of all paperwork used in the shipping department.
  11. Oversees the safe loading of all carriers.
  12. Schedules LTL carriers and full trucks.
  13. Prepares freight damage claims for resolution.
  14. Maintains On-time and Past Due Reason reports.
  15. Accountable for maintaining a safe work environment. Recognizes unsafe conditions and takes action to prevent injuries and property loss.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Trains CPI & outsource manufacturing partner’s employees on transportation optimization processes and procedures.
  2. Leads the improvement of shipping methods and processes by recommending changes in materials, equipment and procedures, in order to enhance quality and attain product cost reductions.
  3. Responsible for the hiring and training and development of employees, including conducting performance evaluations and counselings.
  4. Monitors the shipping processes and product quality. Directs efforts to make adjustments to the process to ensure quality and shipping expectations are met.
  5. Operates forklift trucks and various materials handling equipment.
  6. Effectively communicates with cross-functional team members and resolves problems in a timely manner.
  7. Openly and honestly communicates with all CPI employees to build trust and effective teamwork. Encourages employee involvement in achieving a shared objective towards CPI goals and values.
  8. Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Technical Competencies: 

  • 4 year/2 year degree and/or Equivalent
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in logistics/transportation management or equivalency.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of past supervision and/or proven leadership experience.
  • Military Logistics and Leadership experience a plus.
  • A self starter with the ability to work in a team environment and foster cross-functional collaboration at all organizational levels.
  • Computer skills (MS office, ERP, custom logistics shipping software, etc.).
  • A thorough understanding of transportation tariff pricing structures by mode.
  • Knowledge of Transportation Management System Software (MercuryGate, MercuryEdge, and MOJO).
  • Excellent organizational and communication (written and oral) skills.
 
PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Office employee, seated to complete majority of job requirements.
  • Works on computer majority of the day.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. to move file boxes, etc. as needed.
  • Travel may be required both by automobile and/or airplane.
