BICSI Updates its Manual - New Key Areas Defined

(CPI Blog, Industry News) Permanent link

As information technology and telecommunications professionals across the globe know, BICSI is the leading voice on a variety of standards, training, publications, credentialing, and conferences key to our industry. When BICSI speaks, we all listen.

So it is with some important new updates to the sixth edition of BICSI's Information Technology Systems Installation Methods Manual, a comprehensive 919-page guidebook produced by the industry's leading subject matter experts on everything from proper cabling, pathways and spaces to grounding, bonding and retrofits and upgrades to existing installations.

As a definite indicator of where the industry is heading, BICSI's sixth edition manual now includes three new chapters - data centers, healthcare and safety procedures. Of particular interest to CPI customers and colleagues, the inclusion of chapters dedicated solely to data centers and healthcare reinforces the notion that growth in these areas has simply become too exponential to ignore.

CPI-TeraFrame-Alcatel.jpgCPI's infrastructure expertise for both small-scale and enterprise data centers is bolstered by our impressive roster of rack, cabinet, cabling and cooling capabilities. For BICSI installers, the new data center chapter focuses on installation methods unique to this area, including security, equipment and spaces. CPI offers solutions for each.

The other main addition to BICSI's new manual - healthcare. As this industry's need for more robust IT grows due to various mandates including electronic medical records (a recent CPI case study at Orlando Health perfectly illustrates this), the unique installation requirements in hospitals and healthcare facilities demands specialized attention.

Once more, CPI solutions targeted specifically to healthcare can be a major benefit to BICSI installers referring to the new manual. This is especially true with regards to the installation requirements for seismically active regions set forth by the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD). For such requirements, CPI offers a comprehensive list of OSHPD Pre-Approval (OPA) numbers for several of our IT infrastructure products - you can access that list here.

Across the board, BICSI's sixth edition manual highlights the growing complexity and unique challenges facing installers, contractors and IT professionals at large. As these needs grow, you can count on CPI to remain well ahead of the curve, ready to provide you with products that not only meet the guidelines, but products built to last.
