Installing and cabling equipment in two- and four-post racks is certainly not a glamorous job, but is often an inevitable part of a technician's day.

For example, some equipment has reduced its footprint and weight, such as computer monitors, while other equipment has gotten larger and heavier.
Though many rack-mount products can be attached directly to the rack frame, other types of equipment need shelves with particular features that will provide the results needed. Equipment that tends to create heat may need a vented shelf for enhanced airflow. Deeper and heavier equipment require a double-sided shelf with a high load rating.
