Shanghai Tobacco Case StudyThe green building industry in China is booming, and as big consumers of energy, data centers and telecommunications rooms in that country can certainly benefit from this trend.

Green space in China has grown 154 times since 2008, according to a research report from global real estate services company CBRE. From the first seven months of this year alone, China had more than 2500 overall projects with the country’s Green Building Evaluation Standard Certification.

As of April 2015, projects certified with the praised Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) certification totaled 627. To receive LEED certification, building projects must satisfy stringent guidelines, as well as save money and resources, all while promoting renewable, clean energy.

With proper implementation, green building solutions reduce energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions, helping, in turn, counteract the increase in IT equipment load, according to Chatsworth Products’ (CPI) Technical Support Specialist Michael Zhang.

The problem, he notes, is finding the right solutions and having the expertise needed to achieve such high standards of efficiency.

“There are so many solutions in the market for data centers that people are getting lost,” Zhang adds.

Efficient Solutions by CPI
As a global provider of airflow management and Passive Cooling® Solutions, CPI has impressive track-record of helping data center and telecommunications rooms achieve energy efficiency.

Our offerings in China include:

  • Cold Aisle Containment (CAC)
  • Hot Aisle Containment (HAC)
  • Vertical Exhaust Ducts
  • Open Rack Systems
  • Cable Management

Take a look at this case study, highlighting how CPI helped Shanghai Tobacco to build its new disaster recovery data center. We worked with the company to create a data center that balanced green initiatives with the assurance of zero points of failure.

Combining a CPI Passive Cooling® Solution with the room dimensions and potential power needs, Zhang used Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) modeling to illustrate a solution that was optimized for airflow and energy savings.

Shanghai Tobacco’s final solution was a 360-sq-m room that deployed CPI Passive Cooling through a CAC/HAC aisle layout of 78 F-Series TeraFrame® Cabinets, each fitted with a Vertical Exhaust Duct. By using this solution, the data center was  able to drastically reduce energy usage for cooling equipment and support higher densities.
