The company didn’t just need an infrastructure that would help reduce power usage and avoid downtime—it also wanted to have an Intelligent Building that would be a showcase for sustainability and reliability.
With many companies in China having to shut down operations temporarily because of government-rationed power use, the company decided that Chatsworth Products’ (CPI) pioneering Passive Cooling® solutions would be the perfect balance between green initiatives and the assurance of zero downtime.
The final solution encompassed a 360-square-meter room that deployed CPI Passive Cooling through a hot/cold aisle layout of 78 F-Series TeraFrame® Cabinets
, each fitted with a Vertical Exhaust Duct.

Today, the company’s cabinet loads are running at about 8 kW, but as more and more equipment manufacturers continue to raise the heat threshold, this will likely increase with the years. The good news is that Shanghai Tobacco chose a solution that can save energy today and handle potential heat densities of up 30 kW in the future.
