MasterFormat™ Specifications

MasterFormat Specs

MasterFormat™ 2004, a product of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), is the most widely used standard for most commercial and institutional building projects in the United States and Canada. MasterFormat's Division 27 specifically addresses communications construction, providing specifications and instructions for areas such as data, voice, audio, video, cabling, enclosures, grounding and bonding.

How to Use CPI's Product Specifications

CPI product specifications are organized by product. Each specification has three parts:

  • Part 1 is general information listing general requirements for a class of products.
  • Part 2 is the product specification, which includes a detailed specification of the core product in Section 2.1.A. and key accessory specifications in the following sub-sections (2.1.B., etc.).
  • Part 3 is execution listing general installation practices for the product.

Review the specification paying particular attention to the highlighted items and notes in the product specification (Part 2) which may need to be modified to match your requirements.

Product specifications (Part 2) include a description, performance requirements and an example product listing. Most products are available in a wide range of sizes, colors and in various configurations, so you may need to modify the specification to match the size, color and/or configuration to your job requirements.
