CPI Passive Cooling® Solutions Play Key Role in New Standard

CPI Passive Cooling MEXICO CITY, Sept. 3, 2014 — Chatsworth Products (CPI) contributed to the development of a new standard for the design, construction and operation of green buildings and high-performance data centers in Mexico, which went into effect on July 15.

The standard, NMX-J-C-I-489-ANCE-ONNCCE-NYCE-2014, establishes:

• Design, construction and operation to ensure energy efficiency and sustainability in the data center
• Risks and opportunities focused on the use of information technology systems.
• A metric for energy efficiency
• Best practices for the installation of the systems involved
• A classification methodology for data centers that integrates energy efficiency, risk prevention, governance, risk and compliance

Representing CPI, Victor Bañuelos, Technical Manager for Latin America, and an Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Designer and Certified Data Center Design Professional, provided the working group with valuable insight into the new classification of energy-efficient data centers as they relate to availability, energy efficiency and sustainability not only in terms of their design and construction, but also in terms of their daily performance. (Detailed information in Spanish can be found here.)

CPI’s pioneering solution—Passive Cooling®—plays a key role in energy-efficient data centers and the new standard. For example, the standard dictates best practices in successfully achieving high energy efficiency in the data center through containment systems, such as cabinets with Vertical Exhaust Ducts and Hot and Cold Aisle Containment Solutions (HAC and CAC).

This standard applies to data centers located in public or private buildings, new constructions, retrofits and expansions.
