CPI Helps Keep HGTV, Food Network, Travel Channel Running Efficiently in the Data Center

December 16, 2015

Scripps Networks Interactive, one of the leading developers of popular lifestyle content for its home, food and travel brands, partnered with Chatsworth Products (CPI) to design a robust data center infrastructure solution that allowed their worldwide operations to run smoothly and efficiently.

Scripps Case StudyHeadquartered in Knoxville, Tenn., Scripps Networks develops content for its popular television, Internet and magazine outlets in the United States and across the globe. The company’s media brands include HGTV, Food Network, DIY Network, Cooking Channel, Travel Channel and Great American Country, Fine Living Network and Asian Food Channel.

To support its vast media empire, the company required a data center solution that would simplify fiber network and support up to 30kW per cabinet without creating hot spots.

To address these concerns, CPI provided Intermediate Distribution Frames, Two-Post Standard Racks and Evolution® Cable Management for Scripps Networks’ closets. Evolution fulfills high-density cabling requirements and organizes cables so that they can be easily traced from start to finish when performing moves, adds and changes, saving valuable time and money. Twenty-four fiber cables ran from each cabinet to the cross-connect to manage patching, allowing flexibility within the switches.

“It [Evolution Cable Management] is now in every single Intermediate Distribution Frame closet from Singapore to New York,” stated Patrick Gresham, Data Center Operations Manager of Enterprise IT Operations for Scripps Networks.

In addition to the fiber network solution, Scripps Networks implemented CPI Passive Cooling® Solutions, which featured F-Series TeraFrame® Cabinet Systems with Vertical Exhaust Ducts, Evolution Cable Management and accessories.

CPI’s custom data center solutions helped to isolate and redirect hot air in the data center, ultimately resulting in superior equipment cooling performance, zero hot spots and reduced costs. Scripps Networks’ data center has now become a showpiece. To show how proud they are of the new design, the company put its brands like HGTV, Travel Channel and Food Network on the sides of the cabinets, showing how technology is supporting the everyday business of Scripps Networks.
