Beijing Bans Data Centers with PUE Above 1.5

October 20, 2016

GT-SERIES GLOBALFRAME GEN2 CABINETData centers in Beijing must now operate with a power usage effectiveness (PUE) rate below 1.5, according to a recent report by Environment 360, a publication of Yale University. With most data centers in China operating with a PUE of 2.2, the new mandate is causing many companies to relocate.

The value of being “green” has clear environmental and financial reasons, and data centers across China are becoming aware of it, as the Cross-Connect blog reported here. More recently, Chatsworth Products’ (CPI) experts discussed the issue at the America Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai.

Years of experience in energy-efficient solutions

In 2006, CPI developed Passive Cooling®, which is still the most cost- and cooling-effective thermal management breakthrough on the market today.

Through the patented Vertical Exhaust Duct system, enhanced cooling of equipment without the need for additional fans is possible. This results in a more efficient use of available cool air and better overall heat transfer away from equipment, all of which help in achieving lower PUE.

The recommended solution

The GT-Series GlobalFrame® Gen 2 Cabinet System was specifically designed to help companies in the Asia Pacific market reduce overall energy costs and meet green standards, particularly when configured with the Vertical Exhaust Duct.

Advantages of the cabinet include:

  • Vertical Exhaust Duct Configuration – captures and removes hot exhaust air from the cabinet to optimize efficiency for high density applications.
  • High Load Rating – supports up to 1300 kg (2866 lb) of equipment.
  • Cable Openings – brush-covered cable openings in the top panel provide easy access for overhead cabling.
  • Perforated Doors – the standard configuration has 78 percent perforated front and rear doors to support front-to-back airflow.
  • Lockable Side Panels – allows easy installation and locks with a key.
