Vertical Exhaust Duct Solution for High-Density Data Centers
Xfernet faced significant challenges in its Los Angeles data center, where growing demand for colocation services required higher rack densities without expanding the physical footprint. With shallow raised floors and low ceilings, traditional air conditioning systems struggled to maintain ideal operating temperatures as power requirements increased. This case study explores how CPI's innovative solutions helped Xfernet overcome these obstacles and achieve remarkable efficiency gains.
The Vertical Exhaust Duct (VED) solution from Chatsworth Products provided a targeted approach to cabinet-level airflow management, enabling Xfernet to double rack density from 4-5kW per cabinet. By containing and exhausting hot air directly, the VED system reduced the strain on existing data center air conditioning in Los Angeles, allowing for scalable power up to 30kW per cabinet. This implementation demonstrated how advanced thermal management can transform colocation services in constrained environments.
Xfernet's Los Angeles facility now operates with improved cooling efficiency, significantly lowering energy costs and enhancing overall performance for enterprise dedicated server and IP transit service clients. The VED solution minimized bypass airflow and hot spots, ensuring reliable operation even as density increased. This success highlights how CPI's expertise in data center solutions delivers tangible benefits for colocation providers seeking to optimize their infrastructure.
Beyond cooling improvements, the project supported Xfernet's goals for future-ready data center solutions in Los Angeles, aligning with industry trends toward higher density and sustainability. The customized approach included seamless integration with existing infrastructure, avoiding costly renovations or additional air conditioning units. This case study serves as a model for other colocation providers facing similar challenges in urban settings.
For organizations exploring colocation Los Angeles options or seeking to enhance their data center air conditioning, CPI's proven solutions offer a path to greater efficiency and scalability.
